In 1975, three friends had an ambitious idea of using a Sesame Street™ style of puppeteering to teach children Bible stories, verses, and themes. Starting with one puppet named Sidney, the trio quickly expanded their cast of characters and founded the Friends Puppet Company based in Vancouver, WA. They realized immediately that the children were drawn into the Bible lesson by the puppet characters and became an instant hit! The Friends performed 400 shows their first year.

The next 30+ years were filled with weekly church events, summer VBS, and camps. They entered the public school systems with cutting edge school assemblies targeting social issues and other character education themes.

In 2007, after 10,000+ performances and seeing over 13,000 decisions for Christ, The Friends retired from their regular performing schedule and travel. John and Ella Mae Buskirk continue to share their puppeteering gifting at Living Hope Church.
